Aliquippa vs McKinley Tech (DC)

Location: Wolvearena, Turtle Creek, PA

The unofficial motto of Aliquippa has always been "There's always unfinished business" but this year that motto has a different edge to it under first year head coach Michael Warfield. After longtime headcoach Mike Zmijanic was let go last spring, Warfield, a Quips alum-87, was brought in to recharge a program that has been in the District 7 final for the last 11 years.

Warfields first test was McKinley Tech out of northeast, Washington DC, who has a brand new coach themsevles in Chris Godwin. McKinley Tech officially reopened its doors in 2006 after closing in 1997, but with strict academic requirements this sometimes means that the athletic teams suffer.

These two teams met at Wolvearena Saturday August 25th, 2018 part of the Western PA vs Everyone event that weekend. Everyone was wondering how this new look Aliquippa offense was going to look under Head Coach Warfield. Well, six-plays into their first drive and a 15 yard touchdown pass from senior Quarterback Eli Kosanivich to Deovoan Crute had the Quips on the board earlier. It didn't slow down after that leading to 48 points in the first half and a 48-0 win over McKinley Tech. The offense was quick strike with short drives and great field position. Only starting on their side of the field three times all afternoon. A large part of that is thanks to a defense that looked to already be in midseason form. Returning 8 starters from a defense that allowed only 44 points last season, Aliquippa made life very difficult for a young undersized McKinley Tech offense. The Quips frequently pinning back the Trainers inside their 10yard line.

By the time the final whistle sounded the Quips had sent out the signal that this year they look to finish that "unfinished business" and are not gonna miss a beat under new coach Michael Warfield. Aliquippa's travels to new 3A-section 1 opponent Waynesburg Central in week 1 of the WPIAL season.
